Balance

   Balance explores the relationship between structure, movement, and equilibrium through an innovative reinterpretation of the  

   spherical artist's book. Constructed from a sequence of circular pages mounted on an intentionally offset central axis, the work

   transforms a familiar geometric form into a dynamic sculptural composition that appears to shift and settle with each successive

   layer.

   Natural wood, handmade paper, fiber, and carefully selected shades of green create a restrained visual language inspired by the

   interconnected systems of the natural world. The layered construction reveals both the mechanics of the book and the beauty of 

   its engineering, allowing viewers to experience the object simultaneously as sculpture, book, and kinetic form.

   The asymmetrical arrangement encourages the eye to travel through the composition, discovering changing relationships 

   between positive and negative space, volume, and line. Although grounded in precise craftsmanship, the work conveys a sense 

   of organic growth, suggesting forms found in seed pods, stacked stones, tree rings, and other naturally occurring patterns.

   By uniting paper engineering with sculptural design, Balance challenges conventional expectations of the book as a static 

   object. Instead, it becomes an exploration of equilibrium—where structural innovation, material sensitivity, and thoughtful 

   composition converge in a work that celebrates the quiet harmony found between opposing forces.

   

   Artist Statement

   The creation of Balance began with a simple question: What would happen if the center of a sphere were no longer centered? 

   By intentionally shifting the placement of the rod through each circular page, I disrupted the expected geometry of the form. 

   What emerged was something I had not anticipated—a structure that appeared to defy gravity, resembling a carefully balanced 

   stack of plates held in quiet equilibrium.

   Experimentation has always been central to my artistic practice. Rather than beginning with a predetermined outcome, I often 

   allow curiosity to guide the process, trusting that unexpected discoveries will reveal ideas more compelling than those I could 

   have planned. Balance is the result of one such exploration, where a structural experiment evolved into a meditation on stability, 

   tension, and harmony.

   The restrained palette of greens, natural wood, and earth tones reflects the interconnected systems found in nature, where 

   balance is both delicate and essential. Ecosystems flourish through equilibrium, just as our own lives depend upon the continual

   negotiation of competing forces. Physical and emotional well-being, work and rest, ambition and contentment, certainty and 

   curiosity all exist in a state of constant adjustment rather than perfect stillness.

   Although the sculpture appears stable, its visual tension suggests that balance is not a fixed destination but an active process. 

   Each offset layer depends upon every other layer to create a unified whole. In much the same way, our lives are shaped by 

   countless small decisions that continually shift, adapt, and seek equilibrium.

   Balance invites viewers to consider not only the engineering of the object itself but also the quiet act of finding harmony within 

   complexity. It is a reminder that strength is often found not in perfect symmetry, but in the careful negotiation of forces that allow

    us to remain centered even when the world around us is in motion.
